Department of Biology

About us

The Department of Biology was established in 2008 in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Today, there are 3 associate professors, 6 assistant professors, 1 expert and 4 teaching and research assistants in the Department and they are involved in research programmes in accordance with the rapid succession of scientific developments in biology such as molecular biology, biotechnology, microbiology, ecology, plant and animal systematics, plant anatomy, hydrobiology.

Our graduates are well equipped with the knowledge and the capability to do research to catch up with the new developments in biological sciences and are expected to meet the needs of the country in the future. The graduates have very good employment opportunities in the research centres of the both state and the industry and also at the educational institutions.

 

Biology

Biology Program offers courses on the biological, chemical, physical and biostatistical principles governing the behaviour of living matter at the molecular, cellular, organism and population levels. Fundamental subjects as molecular biology, microbiology, plant and animal biology, hydrobiology and ecology are supplemented by a wide variety of courses to prepare the students for careers in research and teaching in university, and for various positions in food and drug industry, agriculture, forestry, and public health.

 

Molecular Biology and Genetics

Offical permission was taken from the Council of Higher Education for establishing Molecular Biology and Genetics program.
